Polly Campbell is Clinical Director of the Advanced Nursing Education Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (ANE-SANE) Program, at the University of New England School of Nursing and Population Health. The ANE SANE Program is a unique public/private partnership to strengthen the state’s existing, innovative Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Program funded by a grant from the Health Resources Services Administration.
For 16 years Polly was the Director of the Maine State Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner Program and has over 35 years of experience working in the field of interpersonal violence. In addition to direct service with victim/survivors of abuse and violence, she has coordinated statewide education, training and service programs that brought together professionals from various disciplines to better meet the needs of adult and child victims of violence and abuse.
In 2016 Polly attended the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention’s 4 day advanced course, in 2018, the Masters Course at the Institute, and the day long course offered through the International Association of Forensic Nurses. She has attended several additional educational events on the subject. Polly provides education for multi-disciplinary teams and health care providers on the medical impact of non-fatal strangulation. In addition, she has been qualified as an expert and testified in over a dozen criminal trials.
Polly currently sits on the Maine Domestic Violence Homicide Review Panel, the Board of Directors of the state Elder Abuse Institute, and the SAFE Program Advisory Board kit tracking subcommittee. She is Past-President (2013) and board member of the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN), has been active on several committees over the years, and currently sits on the Social Justice Committee, and the Conference Planning Committee.
