Director of Undergraduate Nursing Affairs, Associate Professor
University of Michigan-Flint
Auburn Hills, Michigan
I have been a nurse for over 35 years and have extensive experience in critical care, neuroscience, and education. I hold certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educators (CHSE) from the Society of Simulation in Healthcare. I also had the distinct honor of participating in the first cohort of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) and CAE Healthcare Simulation Fellowship in 2016-2017. As a tenured associate professor, I have a strong background in interprofessional education to improve patient outcomes. My research includes the use of simulation for advanced practice nursing as well as interprofessional health professions education. I continue to conduct research in academic, acute care, and community settings.
Additionally, I have completed the IAFN online training courses for Adult/Adolescent and Pediatric/Adolescent SANEs. I am the co-PI on a federally funded Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) Advanced Nursing Education (ANE) Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (ANE-SANE) Program grant. This grant served as the impetus for the development of an academic program to train SANEs. This program included the input of multiple community partners as well as the use of standard and mixed reality simulation techniques.
