Samuel A. McLean, MD, MPH received his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College and his MD degree and MPH in General Epidemiology at the University of Michigan. He then completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Emergency Medicine Residency at Boston Medical Center. Dr. McLean is currently a Jeffrey Houpt Distinguished Investigator; Professor of Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, and Anesthesiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine; and Attending Physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of North Carolina Medical Center.
The overarching goal of Dr. McLean’s research is to better understand the recovery process after trauma exposure - including sexual assault - and to use this improved understanding to develop effective secondary preventive interventions to improve post-traumatic outcomes.
Outside of work, Dr. McLean enjoys spending time with his family and cheering on the Detroit Lions.
